Aims and Objectives of the group:

Geology is the study of how the earth works, today, in the past, and possible events in the future. We do this using techniques from math, physics, chemistry and biology and applying them to the earth.

Any expertise needed:

Nothing specific. But to make the group a success, we would ask that you be prepared to present a geological topic of your choosing, maybe once a year.

Equipment needed:

Nothing special, but you may like to have a pencil and paper, in case you want to make notes for further research.

Maximum number permitted in the group:

Currently limited to 6 people, but if there is enough interest, we could use a larger room, and cater for up to 25.

A brief description of a typical meeting:

The class will start by spending 45 mins looking at how the earth works we will then break for coffee etc and then we may look at rocks in thin section or look at another geology topic for 30 mins.

Note: starting from 7th May, we will be meeting at the Yum Yum Café in West Street
