Dunstable Good Neighbours

At our time of life, there may come a time when we need a little extra help. And that's where Dunstable Good Neighbours may be able to fill the gap.

Whether it's fetching a prescription, filling in a tricky form, or changing a light bulb, give us a ring and we may be able to help.

Call us on 07491 455777, and we'll see what we can do.

Or if you're still perfectly able, and would like to extend a helping hand to those who are not, why not consider volunteering with us?

Talking Elephants

Organised by Neville Funerals, but open to all:

Talking Elephants is our growing network of free monthly bereavement support groups, open to anyone who has suffered loss, who would appreciate a friendly face, some support, and a chance to engage with people going through something similar, over a cup of coffee. Having worked with bereaved families for many years, we understand that meeting other people who understand how you feel can be hugely beneficial. We set up Talking Elephants to provide a relaxed, comfortable space for our communities to meet and talk as little or as much as they would like.

Dunstable. The Priory Church Hall, Church Street, Dunstable LU5 4RU.

Held every second Monday of the month (excluding Bank Holidays). 1:30pm-3:30pm.

Supporting Reading in Schools

We have been approached by Schoolreaders who provide one to one reading support in primary schools seeking to reduce the current 1 in 4 children leaving primary school unable to read to the expected standard. They are seeking more volunteers.

Keep yourself young by interacting with young people, give them a helping hand when they need it most, and do you both some good!

Contact Frank (Chair) or see their website www.schoolreaders.org for more details or if you are interested in helping.

Free Arts Workshops

These workshops were quite popular, but the initial funding has stopped, so it is currently uncertain whether or when they will restart.

But I've left the entry here, so if you're looking for it, you know what's happening. I'll update this when I hear more about their future plans.

This is not a u3a activity, but we have had several enquiries about art groups, of which we unfortunately have only one at present.

So the events shown here might be of interest to some of our members. We believe that several members have attended previous workshops in this series.

March will be the seventh month that these workshops have taken place, so they seem to be popular.

Note that booking is not necessary - just turn up.

Or you can visit LearningThroughTheArts for more general information.
