Note: This is a new group, started in January 2025
Aims and Objectives of the group:
Tai Chi improves health, relaxation and serenity through its warm-up exercises and set of moves. The aim is to give practitioners a set of exercises that can be performed by individuals almost anywhere at any time. The ultimate aim is to have the whole class proficient in Taoist Tai Chi with the hope that it will be practised regularly so that everyone gets the health benefits from it.
Any expertise needed:
None, this class is for beginners starting January 2025.
Equipment needed:
None. However, members do need soft-soled shoes (eg trainers) and loose fitting tops and slacks (eg jogging suits)
Maximum number permitted in the group:
24, governed mainly by size of venue and my ability to give proper instruction coverage.
A brief description of a typical meeting:
The class starts with everyone spending 3-4 minutes on breathing exercises. Occasionally the class then performs a number of warm-up exercises. Once members know these exercises, they are requested to practise them at home in between classes. Well practised members then go on to work through the Tai Chi set of moves, while I instruct new members in a few moves per week. After a coffee break I pick out one or more moves in which I believe the class needs correction and demonstrate.
